A Passionate Beginning
Welcome to Rugged Tackle, a dynamic new company hailing from the heart of the Ottawa Valley! My name is Cole Peck, and I’m thrilled to share the story behind our venture into eco-friendly fishing gear. From humble beginnings, Rugged Tackle has grown into a haven for anglers of all experience levels, driven by a passion for fishing and a commitment to sustainability.
Growing up in Ottawa and the Outaouais regions of Canada, my life was a balance between intense hockey seasons and serene summers spent fishing with my grandfather. He introduced me to the joys of fishing at the tender age of four, and together, we explored creeks, lakes, and rivers in canoes, boats, or simply from the shore. These early experiences fostered a love for fishing that would last a lifetime.
From Hockey Rinks to Fishing Waters
While my winters were dedicated to hockey, summers were all about fishing. My grandfather and I were particularly enamored with pike fishing. We delved deep into understanding their behavior, learning about moon phases, pressure drops, and temperature patterns. This fascination with the science behind fishing fueled our desire to find the best products and techniques to catch not only more but bigger fish.
As my hockey career took me to Sweden, one of the world’s best pike-fishing destinations, I seized the opportunity to expand my fishing knowledge. I had the privilege of fishing with expert angler Jimmy Ericksson, who introduced me to European baits and techniques. Despite the wealth of knowledge available, I found it challenging to source these innovative European baits in North America.
The Birth of Rugged Tackle
This realization sparked the idea for Rugged Tackle. After establishing connections with European fishing companies, I decided to create a platform that offers North American anglers access to the high-quality, sustainable fishing gear I had come to admire. Our mission at Rugged Tackle is to help anglers fish ethically using environmentally friendly products, ensuring the protection of fish and the creation of lasting memories for generations.
